Diesel Engine

Part hallucination, part public service announcement, “Diesel Engine” is a color-drenched short set in Seattle’s Chinatown. Dressed as Gena Rowlands from John Cassavetes’ “Opening Night,” director Hanson’s dramatized quest for waste vegetable oil to fuel her 1980 Mercedes is halted by a disapproving postman and, subsequently, a dreamily eccentric dance interlude.

Called Yosemite's twin, the magnificent valley was dammed and flooded under 300 feet of water in 1923. The film calls for the removal of the dam and the restoration of the Hetch Hetchy Valley.
